As recent as last year, I came very close to losing a dear friend of mine. Like anything, when faced with fear of the unknown, we usually seek out answers to educate ourselves. The following information is frighteningly real, and this disease spread like wildfire-

Some strange infection which was just one more I had never heard of, and when reading up on it, I felt it absolutely necessary to leave the details here-
Necrotizing skin infections, including necrotizing cellulitis and necrotizing fasciitis, are severe forms of cellulitis characterized by death of infected tissue (necrosis).

The following is a letter written to my friend just minutes after my first chance to speak with her - she had undergone major surgery, followed by skin grafting-At one point, Helen, laid close to death with the only thing keeping her alive-  a life support machine. I urge you who stop here to visit the links I have attached below-

Please don’t fear EPILEPSY… Be Educated! Help us to bring it out of the shadows!

During seizure always keep the person away from object/s of harm

*Do NOT put anything into their mouth, they CANNOT swallow their tongue!

*Try to lie them on their side, if possible place something soft beneath their head (prevent further head injury)

*Please don't panic! They need your help, NOT your fear!

Time the seizure and if longer than 5 minutes call an ambulance IMMEDIATELY!

*Stay with them, offer reassurance until help arrives

Like many other diseases, Addisons is just one more that hardly any of us understand or know of-

This disease is life threatening for so many so hopefully my info will give you some insight into one person’s world-For Vicki

The Disease:

NO adrenal glands –(stop producing cortisone)

NO electrolytes

NO hormones

These are all gone!!

Some suffer pigmentation of the skin (artificial suntan)

Often the person suffers salt cravings which is usually related to their blood pressure being too low

Feeling of faintness

Have appetite but food does not digest once eaten

Some people suffer ‘phantom’ tummy pain

What to Watch for:

Passing out and /or Speech impairment

CALL AMBULANCE IMMEDIATELY!

RECOGNIZING A STROKE
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed and getting to the patient within 3 hours.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Remember the "3" steps. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The
stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

1. *Ask the individual to SMILE.

2. *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

3. *Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e... It is sunny out today) If he or she has trouble
with any of these tasks, call an ambulance immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions. They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke Association's annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this test could result in prompt
diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.

PICK'S DISEASE

Pick's disease, also known as Pick disease and PiD, is a rare neurodegenerative disease.

SYMPTOMS-Pick's disease is one of the causes of the clinical syndrome of front temporal lobar degeneration which has three subtypes. Pick's disease pathology is associated more with the front temporal dementia and progressive nonfluent aphasia subtypes than the semantic dementia subtype.

CAUSES-Whilst other pathologies causing front temporal lobar degeneration are associated with a genetic cause, there is no evidence in the modern literature that classical Pick's disease pathology can run in families or has a genetic cause.
